The NYPD and prosecutors have officially closed the investigation into basketball bad boy J.R. Smith for allegedly choking a teen fan, authorities said.
Nineteen-year-old Justin Brown claimed the hotheaded NBA star attacked him for cracking a joke about his midseason trade last year from the Knicks to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“After a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding this case, we have concluded that the evidence does not support criminal charges against Mr. Smith,” said Manhattan DA spokesman Patrick Muncie in a statement.
“We are thankful there was not a rush to judgement and the truth came out,” said Smith’s lawyer, Alex Spiro.
