This wasn’t Dennis Smith Jr. going for a triple-double as he did Wednesday at the Garden when he was wearing a Mavericks uniform.
But Smith’s Knicks debut became an exciting glimpse for David Fizdale on how he can mold the new point guard acquired in Thursday’s Kristaps Porzingis blockbuster.
“The early foul trouble was tough,’’ Fizdale said. “I thought he came out of the gate right away ready to go and looked like he was about to get off to a great start, and then he got the early two fouls. I’ll tell you what: He definitely has a gear.
