David Fizdale, the former Memphis head coach and longtime Miami assistant, told reporters Friday in Oakland he would speak with the Knicks and Suns next week. Charlotte, after firing Steve Clifford, also reportedly has major interest.
Fizdale was visiting the Warriors’ practice facility Friday, as he’s friends with Steve Kerr.
Fizdale was an assistant in Miami from 2011-12 to 2015-16, when he was part of two titles with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade before coaching Memphis for 1 ½ seasons, getting fired in December after a feud with Marc Gasol. Knicks management says the new coach’s ability to connect with the modern player is essential, and he had a glorious reputation in Miami.
