Knicks' Arron Afflalo Might Opt-Out Of Contract Now That He's Not Starting

The New York Knicks are no longer starting guard Arron Afflalo, as they've moved him to the bench. The New York Post reports Afflalo might elect to opt-out of his two-year, $16 million deal.

"It’s one of those things I’ll have to weigh in June," Afflalo told the Post. "But hopefully an entire body of work is looked at on both ends. There’s always great opportunities … and this is still one. Playing with Melo and helping this franchise progress, obviously it wasn’t the ideal season we were looking for."

Afflalo was benched in favor of Sasha Vujacic, because the Knicks are hoping for better bench production. Head coach Kurt Rambis hopes Afflalo can provide the boost.

"I guess it’s just my job to be professional and give the team whatever they feel is necessary," Afflalo said. "Obviously, I’m still playing large minutes. Finishing the game is always a priority. It’s obviously a different rhythm because you don’t get to come off of warm-ups and come into the game. You kind of just get thrust in there."

Afflalo is averaging 13.6 points and roughly 34 minutes per game. He's also putting up 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
