Knicks Rumors Roundup: What You Need To Know About New York's Free Agency Plans

The New York Knicks finished the season with the second-worst record in NBA, and both fans and the front office are hoping to turn the franchise around as quickly as possible. Here are three things to know about their free agency plans:

**UPDATED: Tuesday 6/30 3:03 PM**

Knicks are frontrunners to sign Greg Monroe, Arron Afflalo

New York still has some work to do with some big name free agent targets, but the Knicks are set to sign both Greg Monroe and Arron Afflalo once free agency begins at 12:01 a.m. ET Wednesday, according to the New York Daily News. Monroe has been linked to the Knicks since April, while Afflalo is expected to sign for a deal approaching $38 million over three years.

David West won't sign with the Knicks

According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, David West has ruled out joining the Knicks in the hope of joining a contender:

Another rugged power forward has also hit the Knicks’ radar in the Pacers’ David West, who opted out Monday despite being 35. But an NBA source said West, at his age, is not coming to the Knicks because he wants to play for a team closer to title contention.

Draymond Green top target?

Heading into the second year of implementing the triangle offense, Knicks president Phil Jackson and head coach Derek Fisher are going to be on the lookout for catch-and-shoot bigs who have major two-way value. That’s the exact resume of the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award runner-up, who combines top-tier activity and effort both defending the perimeter (opposing players shoot just over 26% from downtown against him) and the restricted area with a spot-up three percentage around 36% — more than desirable when you consider Green’s added value heading towards the iron.

DeAndre Jordan a legitimate option?

New York has the cap space to give Jordan close to max deal if they so choose, and while that may seem like an overpay, Jordan’s elite rebounding and shot-blocking abilities would greatly improve a Knicks team that really struggled on the defensive end of the court. He has said he “loves New York City” and wants to play in New York, but the Knicks will likely have to outbid the Clippers and Mavericks if they want him.

Which of their own free agents will they re-sign?

Head coach Derek Fisher and team president Phil Jackson used the last half of the season to bring in younger players to evaluate them for their rebuild. Guys like Langston Galloway ran with the opportunity and proved they deserve a spot in this league, while other players showed they couldn’t cut it. While it may not get the headlines, trimming the fat off the roster will be just as important for the Knicks this offseason as anything else.
