Knicks News: Spurs, Tim Duncan Retirement Could Throw Wrench In NY's Marc Gasol Plans

The New York Knicks haven't been coy about their interest in free agent-to-be Marc Gasol. However, it looks like Phil Jackson and the crew might have serious competition for his services come July of 2015.

Per Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, "the Knicks’ main free-agent target, Marc Gasol, is also being targeted as a possible replacement to Tim Duncan assuming Ol’ Man Riverwalk retires this summer."

If Duncan hangs it up, the allure of filling in for a Hall-of-Famer in Spurs coach Gregg Popovich's system is likely to be great. The Knicks, already having to contend with Gasol's love of Memphis, would have to triple down their efforts to land Gasol as a complement for superstar Carmelo Anthony.

Either way, it's going to be an interest summer when Gasol and a host of other free agents hit the market come July 1st of 2015.
