Sam Darnold picks a number with troubling Jets history

Sam Darnold isn’t shying away from the Jets’ ugly quarterback history.

The first-round draft choice will be wearing the same number — 14 — as so many past disappointments at the position, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

Quarterbacks Neil O’Donnell, Richard Todd and Glenn Foley all wore No. 14. The six previous Jets quarterbacks to wear No. 14 (which also includes Ryan Fitzpatrick, Greg McElroy and Troy Taylor) produced a combined 64-85-1 record and collectively threw more interceptions (202) than touchdown passes (187).

Todd did lead the Jets to the 1983 AFC Championship game but threw five interceptions in a loss to the Dolphins.
