NY Jets release running back Ty Johnson with non-football injury

A little over a month after signing a one-year contract, the New York Jets have released running back Ty Johnson with a non-football injury designation.

Johnson was a relevant member of the Jets’ backfield last year after starting running back Breece Hall tore his ACL in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos. He played in all 17 games for the Jets, finishing with 30 carries for 160 yards (5.3 yards per carry) and 12 receptions for 88 yards.

Those numbers aren’t eye-popping, but Johnson ran hard with every touch he received.
