The New York Jets defensive player Kris Boyd was critically wounded in an early morning shooting in Midtown Manhattan on Sunday, according to the police.
Officers responded just after 2 a.m. to West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, where a 29-year-old man was found shot in the abdomen, according to a police spokesman.
The man was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition, the spokesman said.
The police did not name the victim, but a law enforcement official with knowledge of the matter identified the man as Mr. Boyd.
Meghan Gilmore, a spokeswoman for the New York Jets, said in a statement on Sunday, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.
