It’s mid-July, and a number of veteran players are still waiting by the phone, hoping to receive a call from NFL teams. Former New York Jets defensive back Jalen Mills is one of the many without a job as training camp approaches.
The nine-year defensive back has started 91 career games, won a Super Bowl with the Eagles, and played key roles in three different secondaries. That includes an impromptu important role with the Jets last season.
Mills went from a practice-squad flier to one of the leaders of the Jets’ defense, starting eight games and filling in at both safety spots and even at nickel cornerback.
