Jets' Todd Bowles says Sam Darnold (strained foot) could play vs. Bills, but would that be wise?

Jets coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that his prized rookie quarterback, Sam Darnold, could play in Sunday's home game against the Bills, despite straining his right foot this past Sunday in a loss at the Dolphins.

Ultimately, it seems unlikely the Jets would rush Darnold back so quickly. But Bowles didn't rule it out. He said Darnold is listed as "day to day" by the Jets' medical staff, and the injury is not expected to require surgery. Nor is it a potentially troubling Lisfranc foot injury, said Bowles.

Darnold underwent tests Monday that revealed the strain, said Bowles, adding it is "too early" to determine Darnold's status for Sunday against the Bills -- the Jets' final game before their bye week.
