Jets surprisingly cut safety, grab Legion of Boom castoff

The Jets shuffled their secondary on Sunday, claiming Ronald Martin off waivers and waiving Rontez Miles.

Martin, an undrafted free agent out of LSU, was cut by the Seahawks on Saturday, when rosters had to be trimmed to 53.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder couldn’t cut it as part of Seattle’s vaunted Legion of Boom secondary. He racked up 11 tackles and two pass defenses this preseason and is regarded more for his run-stopping than his coverage skills.

Miles’ pink slip comes as a bit of a surprise, after he had a very strong training camp.
