Jets sign return specialist Dri Archer to futures contract

The Jets on Wednesday announced that they signed Dri Archer, a wide receiver/running back/return specialist most recently with the Steelers, to a reserve/futures contract.

Archer finished the 2015 season out of football after being waived in early November. The Steelers drafted him in the 2014 third round, but he never found a place within their crowded receiving corps and didn't stick as a running back.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Archer's average of 25.3 yards per kickoff return was third-best in the NFL at the time of his release.

Because of injuries to Chris Owusu and Zac Stacy, the Jets could have added Archer to be their return man after the Steelers waived him, but that move ultimately never happened.
