Jets fire offensive coordinator John Morton, source says

The Jets fired offensive coordinator John Morton on Wednesday, according to a source.

Morton just finished his first season as offensive coordinator, replacing the retired Chan Gailey. Under Morton, the Jets finished 24th in passing offense (198.9) and 19th in rushing offense (106.4) in the NFL. The Jets also averaged 18.6 points per game, which was 24th in the league.

A potential replacement for Morton could be quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates, who was praised by Todd Bowles and Morton for his work this past season.
