It is a "possibility" but not likely that Geno Smith ends up on short-term injured reserve, general manager Mike Maccagnan said Tuesday at training camp in Florham Park.
In the meantime, acquiring another veteran quarterback remains on the table for the organization, according to Maccagnan, as Smith rehabs from the broken jaw he suffered when former teammate IK Enemkpali punched him in the face in the Jets' locker room on Aug. 11.
Maccagnan said Tuesday he expects Smith to miss at least the first four games of the season, but he expects the third-year quarterback to be back in meetings at the Jets' facility as soon as this week.
