Fitzpatrick: From afterthought to one of Jets’ best QB years ever

Sometimes the smaller moves end up being the best ones. The offseason trade for Ryan Fitzpatrick was seen as minor, at best. But he has gone from insurance policy to savior, backup to starter, steadying veteran presence to the key figure on a potential playoff team.

IK Enemkpali’s training-camp sucker punch shattered Geno Smith’s jaw, and it may have set up Fitzpatrick’s career season, the best year by a Jets quarterback since Vinny Testaverde’s magical 1998 campaign.

“The guy just works hard and he’s had an interesting career,” wide receiver Brandon Marshall said after the Jets manhandled the Titans, 30-8, winning their third straight game to improve to 8-5 and remain firmly in the mix in the AFC wild-card race.
