Devin Smith tears ACL, per Bowles

Jets WR Devin Smith tore his ACL Sunday against the Titans, Coach Todd Bowles confirms.

“It’s unfortunate that this happened,” said Bowles on a conference call to reporters. “He was coming around; he was really going to help us.”

The first year receiver out of Ohio State has had a rough season plagued by both injuries and drops, but did seem to be showing progress. Smith caught his first touchdown pass two weeks ago against the Dolphins, which had Offensive Coordinator Chan Gailey hoping it would serve as a catalyst for the remainder of the season.

Smith will have to wait until next year to continue that progress on the field.
