David Harris, the former Jets linebacker who played for Patriots last season, announces retirement

Former Jets linebacker David Harris announced his retirement on Friday.

“After 11 years of having played the greatest team sport at its highest level, it’s now time for me to announce my retirement from the NFL,” Harris said in a statement.

Harris, 34, was released by the Jets in a surprise move last June. It was part of a roster purge of veteran players.

Harris went on to sign with the Patriots, but he played in only 10 regular-season games and had 16 tackles and 1 ½ sacks in a limited role. He wasn’t active in any postseason games, including the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles.
