Aaron Glenn didn’t beat around the bush on Wednesday. Two days after officially benching Justin Fields for veteran Tyrod Taylor, the New York Jets head coach finally explained why he made the switch in his first time speaking to the media since the news broke.

Asked what led him to Taylor, Glenn didn’t mention scheme fit, matchup advantages, or long-term planning. Instead, he delivered a blunt four-word answer that summed up the entire situation.
"Because I wanted to."
Glenn later expanded on the decision, saying Fields “understood it” even if he wasn’t happy, and that his job is simply to choose “what’s best for this team.
