Semyon Varlamov stands out in Islanders' Game 6 loss to Lightning

This time, there was no head-first slide celebration for Semyon Varlamov.

Instead, the Islanders goaltender had to settle for handshakes and a hug from the opposing goaltender, Andrei Vasilevskiy, at the end of the night as he and the Islanders saw their season ended with a 2-1 overtime loss to Vasilevskiy’s Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference final at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Tampa Bay won the game, and advanced to the Stanley Cup Final, when Anthony Cirelli’s shot at 13:18 of the extra period hit the far post, ricocheted off Varlamov’s skate, and crossed the goal line.
