SAN JOSE, Calif. — The points have come for Scott Mayfield but the Islanders’ leading scorer among their defenseman understands that’s not the priority.
Still, the 6-foot-5, 223-pound Mayfield, who turned 26 on Sunday and was a healthy scratch in the season's first two games, knows he has a good chance to build even more momentum when the Islanders conclude a four-game road trip against the Sharks on Saturday night at SAP Center.
“We have a very specific game plan as far as every little detail,” Mayfield said. “Stuff happens during a game, instincts take over but they’ve given us a blueprint that, if we stay true to that, it shows we can play some really good hockey.
