Ryan Strome knows how much the Islanders-Rangers rivalry means to his former team. Now, the former first-round pick gets to experience it as a Ranger.
The teams meet on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden after the Islanders took the first game in the season series with a 7-5 win at Barclays Center on Thursday. That was a day before the Rangers acquired Strome, the fifth overall pick in 2011 by the Islanders, from the Oilers for Ryan Spooner.
“Our coaches used to fire us up pretty good,” Strome said of being an Islander in the rivalry.
