Robin Lehner MVP for surprising Islanders nearing midpoint of season

The Islanders reach the midway point of their ultra-compelling season when they face the Hurricanes on Tuesday night at NYCB Live’s Nassau Coliseum.

They did not practice on Sunday after extending their win streak to six games in Saturday night’s come-from-behind, 4-3 win at St. Louis despite being outplayed by the Blues.

Still, the win jumped the Islanders, who have missed the playoffs the past two seasons, into the Eastern Conference’s first wild-card spot and just two points behind the Metropolitan Division-leading Capitals entering play on Sunday.

A win on Tuesday would give the Islanders (23-13-4) their first seven-game win streak since they ended 2013-14 with three victories and started the next season with four.
