The New York Islanders announced that prospect Jesse Nurmi will miss four to six weeks after undergoing a procedure on his left knee. The 20-year-old winger was projected to begin the year with the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders, but the setback pushes his season debut to mid-to-late October.

Drafted 113th overall by the Islanders in 2023, Nurmi emerged as a promising prospect after a standout season with KooKoo in Finland’s U20 SM-sarja, tallying 21 goals and 50 points in 41 games. He followed that with a strong U18 World Junior Championship performance, posting five points in five games.
