Noah Dobson’s rides with Islanders vet prepared him for long-awaited shot

Noah Dobson spent the first three months of his NHL career bouncing in and, more often, out of the Islanders lineup.

They had their six defensemen set, and it usually took an injury to one of them to get Dobson a cameo in games. But the 19-year-old had Johnny Boychuk in his ear, as his part-time driver and full-time lockermate, to help him navigate the process. And now that Dobson is finally getting his shot — because of Adam Pelech’s Achilles injury that will keep him out for the rest of the regular season — he has Boychuk right at his side on the ice.
