In the first period of their California swing, the New York Islanders were absolutely dominant. As dominant as you could possibly be in a hockey game. They were all over the Anaheim Ducks. By the end of the frame, the Isles were up 21-6 in terms of shots on goal. Dominance.
But they were level 1-1 after the first frame. And then in the second period, the Ducks took the momentum the Islanders had built in the first frame and swung it in their favor. Some of that is on the Isles though. Once again they failed to capitalize on any power play opportunities.
