New York Islanders: Top 5 Moves by New Ownership

Five years ago today, on August 19th, 2014, the New York Islanders announced that former Washington Capitals minority owner John Ledecky and Scott Malkin had bought a minor stake in the team.

The minority ownership would become majority ownership in two years time. Former majority owner Charles Wang would become a minority owner by 2016.

It’s been an eventful five years for the New York Islanders.

They moved to Brooklyn. They made the playoffs and even won their first playoff round in decades. Then they didn’t make the playoffs. They lost their captain and franchise star.
