The Islanders kept their depth on the blue line by re-signing Scott Mayfield. The Islanders locked up Mayfield to a two-year, one-way deal worth an average $625,000 annual salary-cap hit.
Brett Cyrgalis writes how Mayfield will get a shot to make the club on opening night. The main issue with that is the Islanders have depth at the defenseman position especially with the right handed shot.
He would be behind Johnny Boychuk, Travis Hamonic, and Ryan Pulock. It’s not out of the question that he can be a 7th type of d-man.
