Islanders waive former first-round pick Josh Ho-Sang

Josh Ho-Sang will not start the season with the Islanders.

The outspoken former first-round pick was put on waivers with the intention of reassigning him to AHL Bridgeport, another in a long string of disappointing outcomes for the 23-year-old.

Joining him on waivers are forward Tanner Fritz and defenseman Thomas Hickey.

Ho-Sang, the No. 28 pick in the 2014 draft, has tantalizing skill, but has been plagued by inconsistency and maturity issues. A change in regime to Lou Lamoriello and Barry Trotz did not give the speedy winger the fresh start he craved. He did suit up in 10 games for the big club in 2018-19, posting a goal and an assist, giving him seven goals and 24 points in 53 career NHL games.
