Islanders’ third-period nightmare puts them in series hole

The Islanders’ playoff joy ride officially hit a bump road.

Warren Foegele and Nino Niederreiter scored goals in the opening 1:05 of the third period, and the Hurricanes came back to beat the Islanders 2-1 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series at Barclays Center on Sunday. Carolina leads the series 2-0.

Mathew Barzal scored at 13:17 of the first period to put the Islanders up 1-0. The Islanders hit the post in the closing minute of the game in a scramble to tie the score.
