Islanders suffer overtime loss to Hurricanes in Game 1

This was quite different, and so was the result.

The Islanders opened the second round of their postseason with a difficult 1-0 overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 1 on Friday night at an energetic Barclays Center.

After playing their first-round home games at the Coliseum, en route to sweep of the Penguins, the change of environment also brought with it the beginning of what is looking to be like a very tight series between two very similar teams as they prepare to return here for Game 2 on Sunday afternoon.

The game-winner came from Jordan Staal, 4:04 into the extra period, finishing a sharp-angle chance that banked in off the skate of goalie Robin Lehner.
