Islanders put down the ice at UBS Arena

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Islanders, who began their season on Thursday night against the Hurricanes, won’t play their home opener until Nov. 20. But the ice has been laid down at the new $1.1 billion UBS Arena at Belmont Park.

The full sheet was placed over the foundational black ice on Thursday and then painted. The center ice logo is expected to be hand painted and completed by Friday. After that, the rink will be flooded to finish the job.

One gallon each of red and blue paint were used to draw the on-ice lines and circles.
