Jaroslav Halak has been skating for a few weeks as he returns to health from a serious groin injury suffered March 8. There appears to be no rush for him to return, though, with Thomas Greiss playing well in net heading into Game 3 against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.
“Obviously, it was bad timing for me to get injured, but I’m just trying to work my way back to the lineup and back to the bench,” Halak said after yesterday’s practice in which he shared a net with backup J-F Berube.
The Islanders have no plans to use Halak as the backup just yet, given that he hasn’t played since leaving that game nearly two months ago in the closing minutes of a 2-1 win over the Penguins.
