It was bound to happen sometime, and odds were good that it would be a “just one of those nights” affair. As the nine-game win streak ended in Washington, none of the things that can go either way went the Isles’ way, and they did a fair bit of self harm.
The streak is over, long live the streak. It was a fun run. The Islanders finish it still in a tie for first place with the Capitals, who delivered the streak-ending blow and continued their supremacy in this season’s series. Now a new and interesting set begins with the Flyers, who are just on the outside of the playoff picture and are having a bit of an identity crisis.
