The New York Islanders were one of a handful of teams to express interest in UFA winger Andreas Athanasiou.

After not receiving a qualifying offer from the Edmonton Oilers, 26-year-old Andreas Athanasiou became an unrestricted free agent this offseason. According to the Fourth Period, the New York Islanders were one of the teams who “expressed interest” in the winger this offseason.

The Oilers acquired Athanasiou at the 2020 trade deadline from the Detroit Red Wings – as well as Ryan Kuffner – for Sam Gagner, a 2020 second-round pick, and a 2021 second-round pick.
