Islanders fans have been collectively holding their breath ever since Ilya Sorokin became a free man. The KHL star has been available since the beginning of May but hasn't signed yet due to ongoing discussions with the NHL and NHLPA.
Essentially, Sorokin is waiting to see if he can play for the Islanders and burn his ELC in 2019-2020 instead of having to wait to burn it next year. Some examples in the past of players doing this are Chris Kreider, Cale Makar, and Charlie McAvoy.
While there hasn't been any new news in that regard, we did find out that Sorokin has changed his North American agent.
