It’s the moment we all look forward to each fall...the Islanders home opener!
Not going to lie: I’m still experiencing a strange mix of feelings about the NHL season, given the personal and societal stress and general heartache and weirdness the pandemic has wrought. I want to be really excited, and in some ways I’m excited, but there’s still a tinge of unreality to it all.
But I’m mostly dealing with it. I appreciate the need or desire for diversions, for escapes, and for returns to “normalcy” even if nothing is really normal right now...which is why I think today’s home opener gives me the most mixed feelings of all.
