Islanders end skid as Semyon Varlamov tames Avalanche

The Islanders tamed the NHL’s highest-scoring offense Monday night, then snapped their own scoring drought just in time.

Anders Lee scored on a third-period rush, tallying the Islanders’ first goal in 139 minutes 21 seconds and lifting them to a 1-0 win over the Avalanche at the Coliseum.

The Islanders (26-12-3) reached the midway point of the season by snapping a two-game skid and winning their first home game in five tries.

Making the start against the team he played with for the last eight seasons, Semyon Varlamov turned in another strong performance, making 32 saves in the win.
