If the Islanders’ headline threw you, the body copy helped elaborate: They’ve added a Bowness to their front office, but it’s not their former coach (Rick) but rather his son (Ryan), who’s had pro management and scouting experience with three organizations.
Most recently, Ryan Bowness was with the Ottawa Senators, from whom he parted ways this offseason following general success with their AHL squad and prospect pool as their assistant and then associate GM. He was previously with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers in pro personnel and scouting roles.
Officially, he joins the Islanders as assistant general manager and director of player personnel.
