Islanders can look to a slice of history for Game 7 inspiration

Johnny Boychuk was asked on Sunday if the minutes he were logging were catching up to him heading into Game 7 on Monday in Washington.

“You can’t get tired in the playoffs,” Boychuk said. “You never know what’s going to happen.”

Especially with the Islanders playing their first Game 7 in Washington since the Easter Epic, the four-overtime classic the Isles finally won 3-2 on April 18 (and 19), 1987.

There’s little chance Monday’s game will match what happened that night at Capital Centre, when Pat LaFontaine beat Bob Mason for the game-winner at 1:58 a.
