The Islanders did almost everything better on Monday night against the Penguins than two nights previous. They were physical. They were active in the offensive zone. They got superb goaltending from Semyon Varlamov and limited the high-danger chances.
All of that came to naught as the Penguins matched them for second-place in the East Division because the Islanders again played from behind.
