Clock Ticking On Islanders’ Nelson As Team-Imposed Deadline To Sign Looms

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — This game of chicken has been going on for some time.

But something is going to have to give soon.

As of early Wednesday afternoon, Islanders forward Brock Nelson had not yet signed his qualifying offer. Though the NHL deadline for signing contracts is Dec. 1, the Islanders have a policy that says a player must put pen to paper by the start of training camp or else sit out the entire season.

The Islanders officially open camp Thursday with physicals.
