BLOCKBUSTER: Islanders trade Johnny Boychuk to Sabres for future considerations

File this under things that aren’t terribly meaningful, but are good to know: The New York Islanders have traded the rights to Johnny Boychuk to the Buffalo Sabres for future considerations.

Boychuk is {air quotes} “retired,” but still on the books while his contract runs out after his playing career was prematurely ended due to injury. The Islanders have accounted for that the last two seasons and placed him on LTIR, which would allow them to exceed the cap if needed to replace (or really duplicate) the cap space allocated to him.
