The Giants do not have much depth at middle linebacker, and that position took a hit when Jameel McClain, working with the second-team defense, was forced out of Wednesday’s practice with a neck stinger.
McClain has a history of neck issues. He suffered a spinal-cord contusion in December 2012 playing for the Ravens, attempting to tackle Redskins running back Alfred Morris. McClain missed the final three games that season, but made a successful return once his spinal cord healed. He played in all 16 games for the Giants in 2014, starting 14, after he was forced into the middle linebacker role following Jon Beason’s foot injury.
