If you look at what has transpired with the Giants this season and think to yourself, “None of this adds up,’’ you should try calculating it all again.

Pat Shurmur the other day said, “Each year, you’re faced with different challenges. We have some unique ones this year.’’ He did not expand on that, but his message was clear: One of the most blatant “different challenges’’ is the youth on the roster struggling through learning and losing. Rookies and second-year players have been shoveled into positions of great stress with predictable results.

It adds up like this: Rookies and young players make mistakes.
