The expectation is Devon Kennard, coming off one of the best rookie seasons for a Giants linebacker in decades, will hold down one starting job on the outside. Who gets the other? The favorite is J.T. Thomas, a 26-year old who started 10 games for the Jaguars in 2014. Jameel McClain is coming off a solid debut season with the Giants and will challenge, as will Jonathan Casillas (a six-year vet and infrequent starter who played last season with the Patriots) and old standby Mark Herzlich.
Most intriguing rookie
The Giants traded up to grab the very first pick in the second round of the NFL draft — that’s how desperate they were to select a ready-to-play safety.
