Punt returner’s Giants debut could not have gone worse

The odds of a miracle comeback were slim when Kaelin Clay took the field.

His mistake eliminated the opportunity completely.

Signed off waivers by the Giants one week ago, Clay muffed a punt with 45 seconds left at the Giants’ 21-yard line, ending any hopes of a season-opening win Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

“There’s still no excuses,” the punt returner said after the Giants fell to the Jaguars, 20-15. “You come in as a punter returner, the first thing you are supposed to do is catch the ball. Just put it behind me, man, move onto Dallas.
