Pat Shurmur on QB sack rule: 'Anatomically, this is getting difficult'

Pat Shurmur thinks defensive players are running out of ways to legally sack a quarterback.

With new rules in place that protect the passer from even the most mundane hits, the Giants’ coach said on WFAN on Tuesday that there is a “checklist of stuff you can’t do” when attempting to make a sack.

“It’s almost like you can’t hit 'em with your head, you’re allowed to wrap 'em up but you can’t scoop 'em, and you can’t put your body weight on them,” Shurmur said. “Anatomically, this is getting difficult, right?”

The Giants have not been involved in any egregious interpretations of the rule the way, say, Clay Matthews of the Packers has, or the way flags were flying in Monday night’s game between the Steelers and Bucs.
