After selecting N.C. State defensive lineman B.J. Hill in the third-round on Friday, general manager Dave Gettleman used New York’s last draft selection on Miami’s RJ McIntosh.
Both players fit James Bettcher’s defense due to their ability to play multiple positions on the defensive line. Bettcher’s base defense is a 3-4 front, but Big Blue’s new defensive coordinator is known for changing his defensive formations throughout a game.
The Giants will run 3-4, 4-3, and nickel formations under Bettcher, making versatile players more valuable. The Giants got two perfect fits for their defensive coordinator on Friday and added a 6-foot-5, 286-pound defensive lineman with starting potential in the fifth-round.
