There is a working list of seven candidates the Giants will sort through to fill their head-coaching vacancy, and there appears to be a strata already in place as far as — at this point — determining how they stack up before the interview process.
Baylor coach Matt Rhule and former Packers coach Mike McCarthy have the feel of front-runners and should be labeled as very serious possibilities. Eric Bieniemy, the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator, and Don “Wink’’ Martindale, the Ravens’ defensive coordinator, are persons of strong interest the Giants want to investigate. At this point, it is likely Kris Richard, the Cowboys’ defensive passing game coordinator, and Patriots special teams coordinator Joe Judge will have to wow Giants co-owner John Mara and general manager Dave Gettleman in order to vault anywhere near the top of the group.
